Candle Care & Safety
There is actually an art to burning candles… lighting a candle for too short a time creates a ‘memory melt pool’ that can affect how well your candle burns, how much smell it throws and how long it lasts.
Candle memory starts from the first time you light your new candle and sets the stage for how well the candle will perform throughout its lifetime. If a candle is not burned for long enough to allow the wax to liquefy or to melt to the edges of the container, it will create a ‘memory ring’ and will typically only ever burn up to the point it was last extinguished. Once a candle has a “memory ring,” it will continue to ‘tunnel’ for the life of the candle, reducing its ability to scent a room and burn quicker.
Try to burn a candle for at least one hour for each inch (2.5cm) of diameter. Ensure that you light the candle long enough each time to get a full melt pool to the edges of the container and this will ensure that you get the full effects of the fragrance throw and the longest duration of the candle.

Please ensure that you trim the wick to around 5mm showing before each lighting of the candle.
Thank you for choosing Gorgeous Gower candles, please ensure that you treat all candles with respect and follow all precautions necessary for their safe use.

Trim wick to around 5mm before lighting and between each burn.
This will help to keep a safe flame height and reduce sooting. Discard candle when down to the last 10mm of wax depth.
Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles.
Especially when candles are burned on shelves, there should be a clearance distance of at least 30cm between the top of the flame and the shelf and there should be a 10cm space between candles.
Burn candle out of reach of children and pets.
Never place lit candles where they can be easily knocked over anyone, especially children and pets.
Do not move a burning candle.
It is important that you do not move the candle when it is burning. The hot and liquid wax can splatter and cause wax stains and perhaps severe burns.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
If a candle is always in full sight then any potential issues could be spotted and acted upon quickly.
Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.
Keep burning candles away from furniture, curtains, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations etc.
Keep the wax pool clear of matches and other debris to avoid flaring.
Flammable objects in the wax pool, such as matches, insects, flammable decorations, can ignite and cause the candle to overheat and flare up.
Do not place candles in a draught.
This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, and avoid flame flare-ups and sooting. Draughts can also blow nearby lightweight items into the flame.
Always use an appropriate holder.
Do not place on surfaces that could be damaged by heat. Before lighting, place on a non-porous and heat resistant plate, holder or surface to protect from any downward heat. Avoid placing on painted or polished surfaces.
Do not place candles near a source of heat.
Do not place candles in direct sunlight or on/near a direct heat source such as a fire or radiator as this can affect the way the candle burns. Remember that electrical items like television sets also get hot and therefore should be treated as a source of heat.
Only burn candle for a max of 3 hours.
It is good practice not to burn a candle for over 3 hours at a time. Snuff out flame rather than blow it out.
Various other dangers.
Check safety sheets for each candle for specific chemical risks. Dangers may include one or more of the following: May be harmful if swallowed or cause a choking hazard, if swallowed call a doctor. If spilled on skin may cause irritation, wash off with warm soapy water. Toxic to aquatic life, dispose of responsibly.
